Experiment #43) The Summer Bucket List
Perhaps I can bend time and make summer last forever...
I love Summer*.
It’s my favorite season of all!
My favorite birthdays are in the Spring, so hypothetically, that should be my favorite. In the Spring, it’s exciting, new life is blooming and popping up left and right. It’s good vibes all around. Then, there’s Fall. Another big hit. People love them some pumpkins and flannel. I like Fall because the ticks and bugs start to leave us all alone.
But… Summer is where it’s at for me. Summer is my spirit season.
Heat, sun, sand, a spirit of freedom and adventure, it’s the only time of the year I don’t end up with numb fingers at some point or another during the day. My one, and only beef with Summer is that it…
Is over way too fast.
Not this year, Summer. Not this year.
My friend, Krystal, (whom I mentioned last week as someone I recommend you follow on Substack for her witty and practical marketing spins, “Marketing with Margin”) told me about a “Summer Bucket List” she was creating for her and her kiddos.
Krystal is a WFHM (work from home mom) and has to balance entertaining her two children with running her own business. Her goals this Summer are to:
Not go stir crazy with them at home
Give them fun adventures to look forward to!
Enjoy her own time as much as possible
Maximize the advantages of Summer
I thought the idea was GREAT for all of us! Kids or no kids, business or not.
Personally, I tend to find myself either slow at work but scared to actually leave my business and go do things for myself, or painfully overwhelmed and stuck at my computer while Summer ticks away and sunny days give me the big old middle finger. 😂
So… a list of manageable activities that made me feel like I accomplished something, whether I’m crazy busy or just humming along with projects, was just the ticket! And like that, the experiment begins.
The Experiment: Create a doable Summer Bucket List
Hypothesis: This will be the best Summer ever with lots of celebrations large and small! Plus, maybe I’ll even discover something NEW!
Outcome: TBD. I’m sharing this with you NOW because I want to encourage you to hop on the bandwagon with me. We can compare notes when Summer’s over ;)
My Bucket List is being drafted…
Here’s what’s on it so far:
Stop by the Hot Glass Center (maybe even try it!)
Go to the beach for a day without planning it (this includes: getting in the water and reading a book by the ocean)
Hike Monadnock alone and with a friend
Attend a play at Peterborough Players
Hear live music (bonus points for outside!)
Meet my parents 1/2 way for lunch
Visit Maine at least twice
Try one of my friend’s exercise classes at the Y
Eat outside as often as possible!
Swing on a swingset
Sit by a campfire
Have a party or attend a party
Ride my bike
Learn something new
Plant something
Visit the local Buddhist meditation center
Sell things on Facebook marketplace and PURGE our house!
Go to a trivia night locally
Try an improv class
Swing on the rope swing at Willard Pond
Do a back handspring
Use my bow and arrow
Play Frisbee Golf
Wander through the downtown of a local town aimlessly
My list is just getting started! And I’m not going to wait until Summer is officially here on June 20th. I have no time for such nonsense haha. My Summer begins the second my shorts and tank tops come out!
Let me know if you create a bucket list of your own!!
I LOVE hearing from you and I’m dying to know what’s on YOURS!
*I’m fully aware that grammar rules do not require me to capitalize the names of the seasons. I do it anyway because I like breaking rules. I also like being different. I also believe they deserve a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Except winter. winter can remain in lowercase letters and go to hell.
I love this idea, am already drafting one in my head. I think number one is go on local adventures. Doesn't have to take all day, but just FINALLY do those things I've wanted to do for ages that don't require hopping on a plane.
I didn't have a summer bucket list formed, but I'm stealing the idea from you (as well as a few items on the list). Great idea, and I hope you get through as many of yours as possible!
